Theocracy U.S.A

If it's not clear by now why I like to point out the inconsistencies of the biblical view of god, and to rail against religion in the public square, this should tell you all you need to know:
Just published: The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future by Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK).

Inhofe's defense of his thesis is the Bible, not science.

On a radio show yesterday, Inhofe explained: "Well actually the Genesis 8:22 that I use in there is that 'as long as the earth remains there will be seed time and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, day and night,' my point is, God's still up there. The arrogance of people to think that we, human beings, would be able to change what He is doing in the climate is to me outrageous."

The man is a U.S. Fucking Senator. Any questions?

  3. There is no doubting the rising acidity of the oceans. Even my far-right anti-global-warming friend who majored in physics in college acknowledges that.

The question then is what the outcome of that will be. And will the populace act like responsible adults towards the generations to come, because if--even just if--the global warming stuff is true (and it is, temps of individual places at individual moments notwithstanding) then how could we in good conscience do that to our children?

And if it's not true, but we get off fossil fuels anyway thinking it might be, then we stop funding people who hate us and want to kill us. Again, a win.

My husband and I blew a chunk of our future retirement money to put solar on our roof, and I did not know till we did it what a profound relief it would be: all that energy we're using that comes only from a benign source that we created. It's an incredibly freeing feeling. I highly recommend it.

  4. Good for you, Alison. I haven't looked into it deeply, rightly or wrongly thinking that our house is not well-suited: we're shaded by a huge fir which keeps us cooler in the summer, and which blocks the warming winter sun to a large degree, at least on our roof. But the idea is very appealing, even if, as you imply, it's not cost-effective in the short run.
