Here's an interesting comment titled "Chart of Wall St bonuses & list of CEO Comp" in a DailyKos thread, the last one (as of this moment):

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/1/31/163047/550Margaret WVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00986681743512672783noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4988839706387198339.post-63061010459472457552009-03-26T09:31:00.000-07:002009-03-26T09:31:00.000-07:00Margaret WV: that's an interesting note; I've wond...Margaret WV: that's an interesting note; I've wondered why so much income was in the form of bonuses. The inference is that they are indeed taxed differently, but I wonder how/why/if.Sid Schwabhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14182853083503404098noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4988839706387198339.post-4659857025980014492009-03-26T09:22:00.000-07:002009-03-26T09:22:00.000-07:00I'm with Josh Marshall (TPM last week) on the subj...I'm with Josh Marshall (TPM last week) on the subject of bonuses:

"I know a number of people who work or in a few cases worked at the big investment banks here in the New York. And while the size of the bonuses would float to some degree with how well the bank did in a given year, and presumably how well they performed, to a great degree it was locked in income. And the great bulk of these people's incomes came from their bonuses.

So in some respects, the people getting nicked here can say, hey, I'm losing two-thirds of my salary. In other ways, though, it's just a trap of the industry's own making since over the years they've increasingly used this redefinition as a tax avoidance mechanism -- only now it's coming back to bite them."Margaret WVhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00986681743512672783noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4988839706387198339.post-43394547045805833642009-03-26T08:03:00.000-07:002009-03-26T08:03:00.000-07:00Having it both ways:From the AP,Having it both ways:

From the AP,Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4988839706387198339.post-79443027506350408422009-03-26T06:02:00.000-07:002009-03-26T06:02:00.000-07:00It seems to me it's as simple as this: The general...It seems to me it's as simple as this: The general public is hurting and scared (not necessarily both, but one or the other covers most people). Hurting someone else makes you feel better. So given half a reason, the righteous fury of the mob has been stirred up, and now people are blaming because it makes them feel better, rather than really wanting to determine guilt.
