The Worst Among Us

What have we become?
The world’s largest humanitarian crisis in 70 years has been declared in three African countries on the brink of famine, just as President Donald Trump’s proposed foreign aid cuts threaten to pull the United States from its historic role as the world’s top emergency donor.
Is this why Donald Trump was elected? Do those who voted for him find this appealing? Well, it's Africa, after all, so probably they do. Me, it makes feel sick.

So does thinking about the prospect of our planetary future, as Trump, surrounded by willingly deceived coal miners, signs away all of President Obama's climate change leadership. Literally, it makes me feel sick. And sad. And helpless.

Sure, letting other people starve so we can give our wealthiest citizens tax breaks doesn't really hurt Trump voters. But climate change, sooner or later, will. Does Trump really believe it's a hoax? Do he and his puppetmasters think their progeny will be fine, or don't they care as long as they're able to enrich themselves, now?

The best one can say about them is that they're delusional or stupid. The evidence suggests, though, that they're simply awful human beings. The worst of humanity. Greedy, selfish, pathological.

And, in many cases, elected.

  1. What can be done?! Sometimes I feel like blocking out all news until the next election. So disheartening.

  2. I feel the same, and I often think there's no point even to writing about it. But then I think that tuning it all out is like acceptance, and much as I'd like to, and much as I realize this blog reaches what rounds off to zero people, it's something, at least.

  3. ..."and much as I realize this blog reaches what rounds off to zero people,"

I formally give a heartfelt apology to Sid. I am the metaphorical "Last guy picked", thus negative points towards your own team. Depending on the average week, I am clearly a factor of negative PI.

Which explains "what rounds off to zero people," part.

    Sincelery,
    Mr. B.A. Chain XIII esq.

    PS...

You are a smart ass and piss off alot of people. I read the letters these people fire at the Herald letter pickers think tank.

You are doing very well. Very well.

Coal minors...Generational. Coal is the only gig in town AND it pays well. The hillbillies is all they know man. They have deep roots. I'd rather install solar panels the mine coal.

If we took 90% of the coal minors and train them to manufacture, maintain, install etc. clean energy we'd get it all done in 5 years. USA can power almost everything with clean and renewable energy. 5 years...No nuclear...5 years. All hands on deck with good paying jobs smart power grid 10 years. Jobs jobs jobs. The tobacco companies shriveled up to nuttin'. Nobody thought tobacco could be beat. Dirty fuel and the old ways is why we are here with an Earth dying

We'd (USA) be a beast. How much money would we save? A shitload, that's how much.

  4. Couldn't agree more. I have installed solar panels on my roof. Couldn't afford to have a company do it, but took it upon myself to do so because in today's world it has become so efficient. It is working like a champ. I also raise animals for milk and eggs. Also grow as much food as I can (unfortunately I still must rely on the markets for some stuff).

It is heartening to know that you and others here are doing the same. Each of us must do our parts, just like you, in order to saving the dying earth.

Keep up the good work. I know I will.

  5. A buddy of mine who works in the woods as a logger.

Anyone who's made a living outside doing anything knows it ain't easy. It's the outside! Mother nature....lol

Anyway, he really like looong hooot showers. He got one of those hot water on demand units. Way bigger than he needed. You could turn on all the faucets for 3 hours and it is still hot as you can get coming out the pipes. We were on a well...So we went as fast as the well pump would go. Because that's the way loggers live, on the edge.
