Wow. Get your mind around this: House Republicans kicked some of their fellows off certain committees because they were, and I quote, "assholes." That'd be like people who roll in shit all day claiming other people smell bad. It'd be like Sarah Palin attacking someone for being a lazy self-promoting dimwit. A guy on a street corner wearing a tinfoil hat jumping up and down and warning you to avoid crazy people.
Back-bench freshmen Justin Amash, Tim Huelskamp and David Schweikert are gaining martyr status among conservative activists after they were “purged” from House committees for what they say is a matter of sticking to their principles on tough votes.
But some of their colleagues say the trio got yanked by the leadership-driven Republican Steering Committee because they’re jerks — or worse. In an interview with POLITICO, one member of the Steering Committee called them “the most egregious a—holes” in the House Republican Conference. My god. How egregious must those guys be, when you have, unscathed, Michele Bachmann, Louis Gohmert, Virginia Foxx, John Boehner, Eric Cantor? Joe Barton, Steve King, Joe Wilson, Darrell Issa... The mind simply boggles.

Justin Amash regularly posted explanations for his votes on his Facebook page. Neither party wants voters to get a taste for that type of democracy.

Nice to hear from you PT.
ReplyDeleteI don't know nuttin' about the guy, but I infer it's not about his votes, per se, but about his behavior toward his fellow "legislators," if that's what they're called.
I'd be interested in clarification of what you mean by "that kind of democracy," though.
