And let us not forget that what is defined as "crime" is the description of the behavior of one group, often by another group. By and large, groups of white men, define behavior as "criminal" often in such a manner so as to make it more likely that the behavior of the members of other groups are more likley to fit these descriptions.
ReplyDeleteWhy, for example, is someone who is apprehended stealing a single TV set more likely to endure a lengthy prison sentence than an executive who designs and implements a scheme to defraud thousands through the inclusion of deceptive language embedded deep within a contract that he knows his victims will never read? Yet one of these is considered worthy of a long prison sentence and the other is not. How does this come to be justified other than through a very warped sense of societal and legal ethics?
