Freedom Ain't Free

So eggs from free-range chickens contain five times higher concentrations of pollutants than those of the caged birds.

The good news is that in the US, you can call your chickens "free range" if you leave a key to the barn door within reach of the tallest hen. So we're good.

  1. Hi Sid,

    Oh, a new look!

I've been MIA for awhile and was thinking about you on this lovely summer day. Hope you are well.
Husband's 76th birthday was yesterday and I am now 71. Feeling MUCH better this year.

Have you ever checked out this website? http://sermo.com It's for physicians, but not sure if you have to be actively working. One Boston area doctor mentioned it.

I have abandoned my personal blog and hidden all comments. Later, I may try to post all the 1970s movie reviews I wrote, if I have the time. Too much time at the movies was not helping my health. Now I'm walking, swimming and dieting. Dropped 30 lbs. with this simple diet:

    MOVE MORE,EAT LESS

How about that? It really works!

I'm making better food choices and trying to cook at least a little more than I have in the past.

  3. Actually, I now have 3 free-range chickens in my freezer. And a quarter beef we pick up next week. The beef really did live a grass-fed life. I'm almost scared to put the chicken and beef to the test. Already eating local eggs for a buck a dozen. Tempted to get a couple chickens myself, but, how many producers of local, and how many consumers? We'll buy the eggs.

As to the slaughter, having spent many years in a vet hospital, I need to know it's humane. I need to know our meat was treated with compassion during it's last existence. Never happen. But at least it can be quiet, limited time, and very quick.

    I hope.

In the meantime, eating more lettuce than anyone ever wanted to see, lol. Garden is going great guns.
